Evidence based Naturopathic Doctor

I was instantly impressed by Dr. Caroline Methe! Her commitment to continuously learning and pushing for a root cause with her patients is the kind of support we all need from those on our care team!

About Dr. Caroline Methe:

Dr. Caroline has a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. She is a member of the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians along with similar associations for pediatrics and general naturopathic medicine. Nutrition is also one of Dr. Caroline's key areas of focus where she specializes in plant based diets. Dr. Caroline entered naturopathic medicine because of her own health struggles as a teenager.

75% of Dr. Caroline's patients come to her with digestive health issues. After seeing the prevalence of gut issues in her own clinic Dr. Caroline created an evidenced based protocol for treatment of Ulcerative Colitis which has seen immense success in her patients. At the time of its creation it was the first and only UC protocol of its kind by a Naturopathic Doctor. Impressive!

What does Dr. Caroline Methe want you to know about living with IBD?

For those newly diagnosed Dr. Caroline wanted you to know: "Don't lose hope! You can gain control of your health again!" This however can often be hard without guidance. With so much misinformation these days she recommends that you: 1) Learn from other people's stories (I know a site if you are interested - hehe) and 2)Find a good team of medical professionals to listen and support you through the challenge of IBD. Naturopathic doctors are highly educated professionals specializing in immune and gut health - the perfect mix of what we need in our care.

Dr. Caroline's Ulcerative Colitis protocol focuses on first removing things that are obstacles for us to heal. "Your body wants to heal. You've got to allow it to heal before doing anything else." The first module in her seven step program is to eliminate trigger foods. "Some patients are able to go into remission just by this step alone." She is quick to acknowledge however, "This is not a quick fix, nor is it just symptomatic relief. We are addressing the root causes of UC: inflammation, food triggers, microbiome dysbiosis, gut lining irritation and much more." If removing triggers alone doesn't improve symptoms, patients will often begin to see improvement after incorporating healing foods, probiotics, herbs, and supplements to heal the gut lining, reduce inflammation, and to restore nutrient deficiencies - all of which are covered in modules two through seven in her program. Even so, Dr. Caroline always wants to try and remove triggers first.

Dr. Caroline also acknowledges that IBD can be a lonely disease. When you are first diagnosed, it's common that you don't want to talk about your poo with others. But, if you can push through the awkwardness of the topic you can learn a lot from others across the IBD community. One of the perks of partnering with Dr. Caroline is she has a private FaceBook community where you can ask questions and learn from other's experiences. There is a lot of fear that comes with IBD but it is helpful to find people you can talk with that will support you in your journey. It will be ok!

Dr. Caroline, we appreciate all that you do for this community! We look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
